It is conveniently located in the northeastern region of North Carolina, about 46 miles south of the Hampton Roads area of Virginia and 25 miles northeast of Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
The Currituck airport is now included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011-2015, which categorized it as a general aviation facility. The airport has been assigned a three-letter location identifier by the FAA – ONX. The airport’s ICAO identifier is KONX.
