Currituck Outer Banks Activities & Attractions
A place of extraordinary natural beauty, rich in history, with one of the finest beaches in the world, Currituck County calls out to be explored--though admittedly most people spend their time on the Currituck Outer Banks sitting by the ocean with a good book, a picnic lunch and friends and family nearby.

One of the best introductions to the history and environment of the Currituck Sound can be found at
The Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education at Heritage Park in Corolla. The park is located at the foot of the
Currituck Beach Lighthouse and climbing the 162’ structure is well worth the effort.
Shopping districts abound throughout the Currituck Outer Banks, and visitors will want to spend some time browsing the unique selection of our stores. The mainland has a charm and attraction of its own. Historic markers line the highway, for this was one of the first areas settled by European settlers.
Life here has always been centered on the Currituck Sound and the changing of the seasons. One of the most important feeding grounds for migratory waterfowl along the Atlantic flyway, sportsmen, camera buffs and birders come here to witness the fall and winter arrival of hundreds of thousands of birds.
Mackay Island National Wildlife Refuge, located on Knotts Island, is a world renowned bird watching site.
Knotts Island is accessible from the mainland by ferry only, and in many ways seems a place that time has forgotten. Well worth the (free) 45 minute ferry ride across the beautiful Currituck Sound.
The area's climate is ideal for year-round golf, tennis, kayaking, camping, and beach vacation relaxation. We invite you to
