Even though I grew up in the foothills of the Blue Ridge in Hickory, NC, Currituck has always held a special place in my heart. My mom’s folks are from Hertford, NC, and every summer, my sister and I would spend a month on my aunt and uncle’s farm there. It was a family tradition to gather up a whole “passel” of us cousins every summer and head on down to the Outer Banks for a week of sun and fun! I didn’t realize until later how much “fun” it was for my mom and aunts to keep us clean and fed for the week! I never thought that I would actually have the opportunity to live in Currituck. It has so much natural beauty to offer to residents and visitors alike. I am proud to call Currituck home and to have had the privilege of living from the NC mountains to the sea.

Coming to Currituck two years ago, I wasn’t quite sure what I would find. I knew of the area, and had visited the Outer Banks many times in my youth, but I hadn’t spent much time in Currituck. What I found was extraordinary, and it wasn’t the beaches or the horses or the history. What I found was people. Like so many other vacation destinations, beauty abounds in Currituck. But unlike so many other seaside locales, the beauty found here seems to originate in the remarkable people who live, work and were raised here. Whether it’s the lady at the lunch counter on the mainland or the guys doing horse tours in Carova, you will be greeted warmly in Currituck, and likely with a kind of sincerity that will kindle thoughts of a simpler time. You will smile, and if you’re anything like me, wonder why you hadn’t come here sooner.

I moved to the Outer Banks in 2003 after graduating from Virginia Tech. The beach was my escape for summer vacations and long weekends while in school. I moved to the Currituck mainland with my wife in 2006 and have lived there ever since. We love the peace and tranquility of the area and the proximity to the ocean of course. I feel very lucky to live in such a beautiful place and help share it with visitors from across the country.

I moved to Currituck County in 2002 due to a military transfer for my husband who served in the Navy at that time. I am the mother of three wonderful children and love hanging out on Currituck’s 4x4 Beach. We love grilling out on the beach with friends and family, while the kids ride the waves on their boogie boards but my favorite part of the day is gazing at the Wild Spanish Mustang as they roam up and down the span of beach in Carova.
