Wild Horses Featured Statewide
The fame of the wild horses of the Outer Banks continues to grow. They are the focus of the UNC Public Television program, “My Heart Will Always Be In Carolina.” The first showing will be on November 23rd at 1:00, with showings at various times after that. The show is produced by northeast North Carolina native, Ken Mann of Wanchese. Photography of the horses was done by Peabody Award winning photographer, Bob Boyer. Boyer, who is now retired, last worked for NBC in Washington, DC.
The Colonial Spanish Mustangs from Corolla are also featured in the fall issue of the “Tar Heel Junior Historian,” a scholarly publication of the North Carolina Museum of History in Raleigh. The article, “The Wild Horses of Currituck” was written by the Director of the Corolla Wild Horse Fund, Karen McCalpin. The purpose of the magazine is to “present the history of North Carolina to the students of the state through a well-balanced selection of scholarly articles, photographs, and illustrations” and it is published two times a year.
McCalpin said, “We are honored to have been invited to submit an article about the horses to a magazine the caliber of “Tar Heel Junior Historian.” Clearly the wild horses are a significant and important part of the culture and history of the Outer Banks and of North Carolina. We are equally proud to be recognized by “My Heart Will Always Be In Carolina” and are grateful to UNC Public Television, Ken Mann, and the NC Museum of History for the statewide education and awareness created through these two features.”
