Whalehead’s Christmas Candlelight Tour is a step back in time to the 1920’s décor and customs taking place during Mr. and Mrs. Knight’s time here. Whalehead is decorated in the tradition of the times with greenery, Christmas trees, music and luscious food, fruit, candy and nuts. The tour will feature a live performance on the original Steinway piano, custom designed for Mrs. Knight. Tour participants will see four floors of this magnificent mansion including the newly designed Starkey room exhibit. Enjoy hot chocolate, cider and homemade Christmas cookies at the close of the tour.

Come to historic Corolla Park to find unique Christmas gifts for your friends and family as local crafters, artists and artisans come together to sell their wares.
For crafters, artists and artisans there is no cost for vendor space, so it is a great opportunity to share your artwork with locals and visitors.

Special musical performances by The Water’s Edge Village School on Friday and The Currituck County High School Chorus on Saturday. Enjoy these special performances before your evening tour at 6:00 PM. Don’t worry about being late for your tour, the carolers will stroll with you to Whalehead and there will even be a song on your candlelight tour! (Candlelight Tour by Reservation Only)

On December 9th, join us for a Whalehead epicurean evening featuring a special candlelight tour of Mr. & Mrs. Edward Collings Knight Jr’s legendary winter retreat followed by a classical banquet reminiscent of 1920’s hunt club fare. The Whalehead Estate will light up for Christmas and invites guests to delight in a gourmet 7 course meal complemented by fine wines. Savor almost century old recipes from The Gun Club Cook Book on historic Whalehead’s front porch as the original Steinway piano sets the tone for an unforgettable evening. Dress in your festive hunting and roaring twenties inspired attire.

This evening fundraiser benefits the preservation of Whalehead, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This 21,000 sq. ft. mansion was built by wealthy waterfowl enthusiasts, Mr. Edward Collings Knight Jr. and his wife Marie Louise LeBel Bonat Knight as their private sporting paradise.
